Coeburn, VA ~ Barbara Ann Harris Bright, 66, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Norton Community Hospital in Norton Virginia. She was a retired nurse of Norton Community Hospital and former captain of Coeburn Rescue Squad. She was the daughter of the late Arnold Edward and Hazel Ann Harris; also preceeded in death by one sister, Margie Francis Teasley; three brothers, Delbert Harris, Carl Harris and Joseph Bruce Harris. She is survived by her husband, Roger Lynn Bright; one daughter, Anninita Dawn McConnell, Coeburn; three sons, Arthur L. Bright, Edward Norris Bright, and Eric Cameron Bright, all of Coeburn; one sister, Betty May Harris, Rockville, MD; two brothers, Raymond Donald 'Donnie' Harris, Falls Church, VA and Roger Lee Harris, Reo Rancho, NM; 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Barbara Ann Bright will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R. L. Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday after 6:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home. Arrangements by Estes Funeral Home, 114 High Ave., Coeburn, VA.

Coeburn, VA ~ Francis Harvey Lane, 75, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Kelly Mitchell and Alice Harvey; also preceeded in death by her husband, Ellis Robert Lane; two sons, Dale Lane, and Glen Alan Lane; four sisters, Judy Ann Burgett, Odra Bell Harvey, Della Hardy, and Crystal Adkins; four brothers, Dewey Harvey, Clayton Harvey, Rush Harvey, and Raymond Harvey. Survived by one daughter, Wanda Penley, Coeburn; three sons, David D. Lane, St. Paul, Norman K. Lane, and Gary L. Lane, both of Coeburn; one brother, Charlie Ray Harvey, Norton, VA; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Francis Lane will be held after 6:00 P.M, Monday, January 17, 2011 at Estes Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Joe Dearry officiating. Beavercreek, OH ~ Nannie Pearl Hamilton Helbert, 85 died Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Masonic Nursing Home in Springfield, Ohio. Nannie lived most of her life in Coeburn, Virginia, and was a member of Coeburn Church of God of Prophecy, but had lived in Ohio for the past 10 years. She was the daughter of the late Lafayette and Cynthia Hamilton; also preceeded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Helbert; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Helbert and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Janice A. Cox, Beavercreek, OH; two son, Jimmy Edward Helbert, Bluff City, and Carl Wesley Helbert, Ashcamp, KY; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Nannie Pearl Helbert will be held on Tuesday January 18, 2011 after 5:00 P.M at the Coeburn Church of God of Prophecy on Grand Ave. and funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Titus Anderson and Brother Jibber Ward officiating. Burial will be Wednesday January 19, 2011 at Hamilton Cemetery. The family will meet at the church at 11 A.M. and leave in procession.

Coeburn, VA ~ Lloyd Leon 'Ripcord' Powers, 88, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Mountain View Medical Center in Norton Virginia. Mr. Powers was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was the son of the late Allen Crit and Fannie Cecile Kelly Powers; also preceeded in death by his wife, Jeanette Powers; daughter, Tommie Mullins; sisters, Ethel Stallard, Nannie Irene Counts, and Hazel Lawson; brothers, Charles Allen Powers, Frank Powers, and Worley Powers. Survivors include one daughter, Sandy Salyer, and husband, Johnny, Coeburn; sons, Gary Powers, Wise; special friend, Phyllis Stanley; 6 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Lloyd Leon Powers will be held on Tuesday January 18, 2011 after 6:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Charlie Couch and Rev. Ron Duncan officiating. Burial will be Wednesday January 19, 2011 at Laurel Grove Cemetery. The family will meet at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. and leave in procession. Survivors include his wife, Nikki Lawson Adkins; sons, Tyson Adkins, Bristol, VA and Marcus Adkins, Bristol, TN; one granddaughter, Alexis and one grandson, Grady.

Dungannon, VA ~ Roy Swanson Baker, 84 died Monday, January 17, 2011 after a long battle with cancer at Holston Manor in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was a retired employee of Powahtan Correction Center where he worked for 28 years and was a member of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church, Ft. Blackmore. Also a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was the son of the late George Henry and Cansia Baker; also preceded in death by his wife, Lola Baker; one daughter, Anita Faye Owens; two sisters, Eirma Lois Laney, Allene Jackson; four brothers, Otis Baker, Luther 'Dick' Baker, Edwin Cecil Baker and Ray Baker. Survivors include, one son, David Wayne Baker, and wife, Barbara, Fort Blackmore, VA; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Baker, Coeburn; 2 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was the daughter of Thomas Summers and Ursula Summers. She was preceeded in death by her father Thomas Summers and husband, Steven Hensley. Survivors include two sons, Rick Hensley, Castlewood, and Thomas Hensley, Charleston, WV; mother, Ursula Summers of Germany; one sister, Linda Obsieger of Germany; 5 grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.
Mrs. Hensley was cremated. A memorial/dinner will be held Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at 6 P.M at the Eagles Club in Castlewood. Arrangements by Estes Funeral Home, Coeburn, VA.

She was the daughter of the late Barney Bascum and Nannie Sluss; also preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Lonnie Hale; three sisters, Hortense Hale, Gracie Estil Sluss and Pearl Mae Corder; one brother, Barney Baze "Buddy" Sluss. Survivors include, one daughter, Mary Ann Deel, and husband, Bruce of Bristol, TN; three sons, Jackie Lee Hale, Jerry Hale, Joey Hale, and wife, Peggy, all of Vansant; 5 grandchildren, Jackie Lynn Stacey, Lea Ann Deel "Wilson", Joey L. Hale, Tiffany S. Salley and Christopher Hale; 2 great gradnchildren, Brandon and Brittany Stacey; several nieces and nephews.
